About the Author
CRAWFORD LORTTIS (Philadelphia Biblical University; Biola University) is the senior pastor of Fellowship Bible Church in Roswell, Georgia. He has written numerous articles and is author of six books, including Leadership as an Identity and Lessons from a Life Coach. Dr. Loritts and his wife, Karen, have four grown children and live in the Atlanta, Georgia area.

Good leadership concepts. Could be better with better editing.

I read this book in the Kindle edition on my iPad when it went on sale following The Gospel Coalition Conference.

Crawford Loritts writes a helpful book on spiritual leadership. He focuses on four character qualities he describes as Brokenness, Uncommon Communion, Servanthood as an Identity, and Radical, Immediate Obedience.

A strength of this book is that it really emphasizes the leader's life and walk with God, in the context of the responsibilities given by God. This book is not a book on practical management skills with "how to" tips, but rather a book on what to be. I personally found helpful Loritts' encouragement that God uses people who know they desperately need Him, and the reminder to not be a quitter.

A weakness of the book is that each chapter concludes with multiple quotes from other leaders personally known to Crawford Loritts, but not necessarily to the reader. It seams Loritts sent out an informal survey and includes here leaders' responses. After a few chapters, I just began to skip over the quotes at the end, as they all began to blur together. Better would have been one or two "pearls" than so many survey responses.

It also seems that the Kindle edition may have a number of typos and formatting errors that detract from the reading experience.

In all, this is a helpful read, though I think there are better books out there on the topic of Spiritual Leadership. I would first recommend Albert Mohler's "Conviction to Lead," John MacArthur's "Called to Lead," and of course J. Oswald Sander's classic, "Spiritual Leadership."

Should be required reading for pastors & politicians!

This is an important book for today's culture. The author presents leadership as an assignment from God. This perspective provides an entirely different starting point from where most modern leaders start. As a result, the overwhelming pride and sense of entitlement that many current leaders display is shown to be antithetical to the type of leader that Crawford Lorritts describes.

The four identity characteristics that the author descibes and elaborates upon are (1) brokenness (2) uncommon communion with God (3) servanthood and (4) radical & immediate obedience. I will highlight just a few valuable statements that make me want every pastor and government leader to read this book.

A quotation from Dr. Joseph Stowell who said, "leaders fall when they stop following"(p.44). The implication is that if a leader is not following God, then he can quickly go astray. But, the author doesn't merely stop there, he points out the solution "When you can embrace mistakes - and even failures - you've opened the door for growth and a different outcome for the next time." (p.68)

Lorritts also offers some important questions that a leader should ask himself/herself including "are you concerned with visibility and recognition, or with significance?" (p.136) Another insight expressed is "Sometimes God has to send us a painful reminder that His assignments are not meant to be about us." (p. 139) I hope this provides you with a picture of the contents of the book and why I believe it can be a helpful tool to all leaders and potential leaders.

One of the Best

After seeing Dr. Loritts speak at a men's retreat on Leadership as an Identity, I was taken with this man. He truly is one of the most humble servants of God you will ever meet, and his book reflects this. As a rising leader in a local church, I knew that I needed to learn more about leadership, but I was tired of all of the corporate/business themed leadership books. A church is not a business, it is a sanctuary.

After reading Loritts book Leadership as an Identity, I can honestly say it is one of the best books out there. The essence of leadership, according to Loritts, is not the mechanics but the placement of the heart. Our hearts and our relationship with God is what is most important in becoming leaders in the church. I give this book my highest recommendation!

This is the worst excuse for a book that I have ever bought. The grammar is horrible and paragraphs (sentences) are simply repeated from section to section. Don't waste your money. How this product was allowed to be sold is beyond my comprehension.

I want a refund

This book was one of the worst I have read in a long time! Grammar was terrible, repeat after repeat on the same thing. It didnt flow and bounced all over the place. I looked up the other books by same author and he basically takes the breed name and plugs it in all the material is the same for all the breeds. dont waste your time reading this book.

About the Author
James Joseph�used to hate to dance. He struggled to learn dance so he simplified the process and that's reflected in how he teaches. He took his first beginners' class in 1984. Since 1996 he has trained under Skippy Blair, a Swing Dance Hall of Fame member, and who is considered by many the teacher of teachers. He's now a GSDTA certified dance instructor.

A great book about making connections, not mastering dance

Here's something new: a guide to dancing that doesn't pretend dancing is easy. That's the basic idea behind James' Joseph's Every Man's Survival Guide to Ballroom Dancing. Joseph claims he is a recovering dance-aphobe, but with his user-friendly rhetoric, step-by-step guides to various rhythm patterns (including charts and graphs), and kindly hints, one would think he has been dancing for years. Indeed, it seems he has, with a wealth of knowledge about the pursuit of learning how to dance. An extra bonus is his interactive website, ihatetodance.com, which provides videos and a continually updated blog to help out those with additional needs. It's also a very entertaining read, with quotes about dancing from the likes of Emmitt Smith, Herman Hesse, and Mr. Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation.
What really makes this book a great read for the average schlub is that it is truly designed for those who do not dance and do not care to dance. It is to help those people get by, and in that sense, this book succeeds wildly. Joseph recognizes that most people do not have natural dancing ability. By emphasizing important concepts like rhythm and posture, Joseph is able to convince the reader that complicated choreography is not needed to woo a lady (or man, for that matter), and could possibly even be detrimental. The idea here is personal connection, or a partnership in dance rhetoric, and this is what dancing is supposed to create. This guide is not a key to dancing, but a key to connecting on the dance floor. For most guys, dance is an obstacle to finding a connection with that special someone. However, with this book, and a little confidence (which you might just get from reading this!), dance may begin to feel less like a chore, and a little bit more like foreplay. That in itself is an accomplishment.
More than anything, Joseph emphasizes relaxing, finding humor in your mistakes, and getting by on the dance floor with a few basic set of tools. The teaching methods used are easy enough to understand, and Joseph's writing voice conveys an ease that is soothing to the reader. A great book for those looking to conquer their fear of dancing, or just an entertaining read for building your confidence in making connections with someone you've just met.

Every Man's Survival Guide to Ballroom Dancing

A great book for any man (or woman) who has experienced reluctance to go out on the dance floor. Not only does it provide the beginning dancer with answers to questions they didn't know they needed to ask, but it gives much needed encouragement and support. The author, tho now an experienced dancer, clearly remembers the beginnings of his dance career, and writes with empathy and understanding for those going through this stage. He provides an excellent analysis of music and movement along with practice exercises Though a person can't learn to dance from a book, this provides an adjunct to classes where a person can learn in the privacy of his/her home, avoid the self consciousness that makes us loose our concentration, and learn to gain confidence as a dancer.
In addition, the book is enjoyable to read. It is written with humor, warmth and a nonjudgmental relaxed attitude - all the qualities we need when we dance.

The whole Suma in one volume. It is incredible and a little overwhelming yet it is wonderful to study such writings as St Aquinas has put forth. It is a great help to keep to the teachings of Christ and His Church. It is not to be read as a story book, but to be slowly imbibed and digested; a great way to meditate on God's mysteries. This book is for you if: 1) you're wondering why your family has fallen away from the Faith or 2) you've come back to the Church and it's a wreck and looks nothing like the Church you remember from childhood.
I had heard bits and pieces of what happened in the Catholic Church since the 60's, but this book pulls it all together.
Very easy to read. I bought two copies- one for myself and one to pass around my family.

About the Author
Judith E. Brown is a nutrition researcher, writer and speaker who provides consultation services to the food and pharmaceutical industries, and government health programs. As a Professor Emeritus of the Division of Epidemiology and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Minnesota, she successfully obtained and completed large, competitively funded research grants related to nutrition and health. Her areas of expertise include scientific advising on new product development, advising on product evaluation studies, public speaking to professional groups, consumer-oriented publications on topics specific to health and nutrition, and expert opinion papers on safety and efficacy of nutrients, neutraceuticals, and fortified products. Judy Brown has more than 30 years of instructional experience in the field of nutrition. She has also been involved with writing for several years and has written more than one hundred research articles for publications. She is the author of NUTRITION THROUGH THE LIFE CYCLE, THIRD EDITION (Wadsworth, 2008). An avid researcher and an exceptional writer and teacher, Judith E. Brown is one of the most influential and respected authors in the field.

Janet S Isaacs, PhD, RD, has worked in pediatric nutrition at federal, state and regional level services in 7 different states, and in settings ranging from outpatient to tertiary level inpatient services. Her primary area of specialty and research concerns children with special health care needs and children with inborn errors of metabolism. Currently she is consulting in North Carolina to develop and teach pediatric nutrition online courses to public health employees. Janet earned her Master's of Arts for Teachers from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana College of Arts and Sciences and her PhD from Florida State University Tallahassee, Florida College of Home Economics. She has published in 5 peer-reviewed journals and in 6 books within the last decade.

Bea Krinke, PhD, MPH, RD, LN, currently serves as adjunct instructor at the University of Minnesota, School of Public Health. Her teaching role has included coordinating the field experiences of nutrition students for over 20 years as well as developing and teaching on-campus and distance courses in various courses, including her favorite: Nutrition and Aging. Krinke's education complemented her work. A specialization in dietetics and an internship at the University of Minnesota Hospitals and Clinics led to work in hospitals, community programs and a progressive member-owned Health Maintenance Organization, where she coordinated several educational programs, including diabetes education. This HMO experience led Krinke to return to the University of Minnesota to earn an MPH in Nutrition with a credential Nutrition Administration. In 1987, Krinke began teaching at the University of Minnesota's School of Public Health, which prompted her to complete a PhD in Work, Community, and Family Education, specializing in experiential education. Krinke is also the owner of Nutrition Profiles, specializing in recipe analysis, and a member of Slow Food, both of which allow her to satisfy her interests in the cultural aspects of food and nutrition.

Ellen Lechtenberg is the lactation program coordinator at Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. She has been an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant since 1996. She is a Registered Dietitian and a Certified Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition. Ellen has the unique advantage of using her nutrition knowledge as a lactation consultant. She has a passion for providing human milk for patients with nutritional challenges such as chylothorax and colitis. Ellen presented her fat free human milk project last year at ILCA and won the project poster. One of her career goals is to increase knowledge of dietitians regarding human milk immunology and breastfeeding thus improving lactation duration. She has presented at local, state and national nutrition meetings. Ellen also has experience working at a corporate level with lactation consultants developing breastfeeding policies and protocols as well as lactation education programs for nurses and health care professionals. She has a B.S. degree from University of Nebraska.

Maureen Murtaugh, PhD, RD, is Associate Professor in the Division of Epidemiology at the University of Utah. She enjoys a balance of research and teaching in her current position. She teaches nutrition, including maternal-infant nutrition to medical students and teaches grant writing in a clinical epidemiology program. Her research interests are broad, including the influence of maternal diet on breastfeeding and child outcomes and the influence of diet on the development of chronic disease. Maureen earned her B.S. from Syracuse University; she earned her PhD in Nutritional Sciences with a focus on maternal child nutrition from the University of Connecticut. In 1999 she decided to retool her career with a post-doctoral fellowship in Epidemiology at the University of Minnesota working with investigators in Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention. She pursues a healthy work/life balance by enjoying the mountain west's natural playground.

Great Nutrition II textbook. Comprehensive and thorough. Takes the reader thru nutrition needs from pre-conception thru senior age. Highly recommended for curriculum.

Not Worth the Price

This book is not as elaborate as the price would have you believe. Many of the charts and graphs are hard to read because they are in grayscale, not full color. This makes it very difficult to read the graph effectively. Additionally, this book is not for someone who wants an in depth look into processes or techniques. In many cases the steps/parts of techniques are given with very little elaboration as to how to carry out those steps or what is included in those steps. There is, however, tons of statistical data and referenced studies.

I needed this book for a college class. Saved money by purchasing on amazon and getting the kindle book for only $9 more is awesome. The kindle version works much better than cafe scribe or brightwave.

Exercises that work

When I was younger, I did Callanetics. At first I didn't think they would work because they were so easy. With just a few exercises a day that really targeted my muscles within no time, I actually saw shape to my legs. I've never had well defined legs. Though slim, I always had the jiggly inner thigh fat and the saddlebags that women hate. For the first tine in my life, I noticed my butt was lifting and I was getting the peach that she says you can reclaim from your childhood. Every inch of your body will become toned doing these exercises. It starts out easy but don't let the first day fool you. I remember the first time I tried them and thought that was too easy they're not going to do anything.The next day I could barely walk I was so sore. I cannot rave enough over this series of exercises.

Very effective workout program!

Determined to lose weight, I bought this book when I was 21, and I gave the program 30 days. I noticed results within 2-3 weeks and by the end of the summer, I had dropped 25 lbs and two waist sizes. It's a great program that's easy to commit to and easy to work into your hectic schedule. The book is well illustrated and easy to follow. I've misplaced my book over the years and now I'm buying it again to get back on the program. I strongly recommend it. It gave me the confidence to begin an exercise program and stick to it.

It really works.

If you are willing to work out, this book delivers. If you want to do the whole body, it takes you more or less one hour, less in the start, more as you increase your repetitions. I found I used more time than the book claimed, but it didn't take long before I noticed results. I bought it 20 years ago, then lost it, and was trilled to be able to buy it again. I highly recommend it.

The content of this excellent small book exactly matches the title.

It was a breath of fresh air to read this incredibly well-organized book, and it is a great starting point for further exploration.

It is clear, concise, and balanced, and is designed to introduce a wide audience to (primarily Christian) theology--methods of study and interpretation--without recommending any specific beliefs. It presents centrist views, and notes differing viewpoints, including some of the author’s.

The book is the first reading in the fourth year of Education for Ministry. For EfMers: what a nice change of pace from MacCulloch!

The academic legitimacy of theology as academic subject

Despite working under the constraint of so few pages, Ford has produced a valuable explication of both theology and religious studies as university subjects, presenting a formula of how those subjects both should and can be taught in secular Depths of Religious Studies.
