The New York Times bestselling series that inspired the international hit video game: The Witcher.
For over a century, humans, dwarves, gnomes, and elves have lived together in relative peace. But times have changed, the uneasy peace is over, and now the races are fighting once again. The only good elf, it seems, is a dead elf.

Geralt of Rivia, the cunning assassin known as The Witcher, has been waiting for the birth of a prophesied child. This child has the power to change the world - for good, or for evil.

As the threat of war hangs over the land and the child is hunted for her extraordinary powers, it will become Geralt's responsibility to protect them all - and the Witcher never accepts defeat.
Blood of Elves is the first full-length Witcher novel, and the perfect follow up if you've read The Last Wish collection.

Review
"The universe of Sapkowski's The Witcher is one of the most detailed and best-explored in modern fantasy, offering endless opportunities for fresh ideas ... Complex character relationships enrich this already complex world; this is the sort of series fantasy fans will cherish."―B&N

"One of the best and most interesting fantasy series I've ever read. Though it functions well as adventure fiction, it has added depth and value as satire and commentary on fantasy literature ... Sapkowski is a genuine stylist."―Nerds of a Feather

"Like a complicated magic spell, a Sapkowski novel is a hodgepodge of fantasy, intellectual discourse, and dry humor. Recommended."―Time

"Like Mieville and Gaiman, [Sapkowski] takes the old and makes it new ... fresh take on genre fantasy."―Foundation on The Last Wish

"A breath of fresh air in a well-worn genre. Don't miss it!"―Dreamwatch

"Sapkowski has a phenomenal gift for narrative, inventing sensational events, creating a suggestive mood, and building up the suspense along with a dazzling, slightly cynical sense of humor."―Jacek Sieradzki, Polityka on The Last Wish

"Sapkowski's The Last Wish is a great collection of short stories centered around a witcher, Geralt - a rare sorcerous breed who hunts down the monstrous but is feared by the innocent. With a wondrous mix of Eastern European folklore and myth, beautiful princesses, mischievous demons and where all is not as it seems, The Last Wish is a great read - perfect for dipping into or just reading cover to cover, as I did."―Waterstones

"It is [his] world-weariness combined with his battle-honed powers that make Geralt such an interesting character. Here's hoping The Last Wish is merely the opening chapter in his English language adventures."―Edge

"I really, really enjoyed this book ... None of the characters in Sapkowski's world are black or white; they are all shades of grey, including Geralt and the monsters."―The Deckled Edge

"Sapkowski is very good at creating interesting, imaginative characters with unusual levels of depth to them ... The Last Wish is an enjoyable book full of stories both melancholy and comic."―The Wertzone

"This beautifully written character-based story from Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski ... a refreshing champion."―The Specusphere

"New battle mechanics, a fantastic storyline, and a gritty setting make The Witcher one of the most engrossing, mature RPGs to arrive on the PC in years."―Gamespot.com on The Witcher video game

"The Witcher delivers one of the most intense and rewarding role-playing experiences this year."―GT Reviews on The Witcher video game

Great story, watch out for Amazon's mislabelling of the order the books come in
By Corrie
This story is excellent and if you have played The Witcher videogames then you will appreciate it all the more (and vice versa)

I'm really just writing this review so people don't fall into the same trap that I did and skip over Swords of Destiny before reading this one. Amazon has this labelled as Book 2 and has Swords of Destiny labelled as Book 4. That is because Swords of Destiny was published later (the English version at least), but in terms of the story this is the order I would recommend reading them in: Last Wish, Swords of Destiny, Blood of Elves, Time of Contempt, Tower of Swallows, and Lady of the Lake (coming out in 2017). The Last Wish and Swords of Destiny are collections of short stories, but the rest all follow a specific story arc so it is really better to at least read the rest in the order that I mentioned. Hope that helps!

Good books, nothing special. Ugly to look at.
By Ari
These are good books. I wouldn't call them great, but I didn't feel like I wasted my time reading them. It skips around from person to person and occasionally I'd get bored with where the story was at and skim the chapter instead of reading the whole thing. The editing is a little poor - throughout the books they can't seem to decide how they want to spell Dandelion's name (they'll use Dandilion sometimes). I mostly read these because I didn't play the first two Witcher games and after playing the 3rd one felt like I wanted to know the characters better. You'll certainly get your fix of Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri, if that's what you're looking for.

Much like the poor editing, the presentation of the books is poor as well. They're rather ugly, all things considered - the artwork on the front appears to be artwork from the second Witcher game, and ugly artwork at that. The cover of Blood of Elves is blatantly artwork depicting a tortured Geralt from Witcher 2. Combined with the red binding, they're just an eyesore. Also, the paperback books come in different sizes and look terrible sitting on a shelf together.

GREAT READ!
By PlaywithJay Gaming
So I had not ever heard of these books or anything about this Universe at all until the last 2 years and then only because of the new 'The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt' video game coming out this month. As I started hearing and seeing allot about this game I started to look up what I could find oout about the story so I would have some kinda idea of what the game was gonna be about, names of characters, cities and Kingdoms and the such, I never really expected to find what I did. And I am SO GLAD I did, because this has turned out to be as exciting and endearing to me as Star Wars or Lord of The Rings, and thats no easy task but Geralt Of Rivia, Ciri, Triss, Yen, Dandellion and all the rest of the colorful characters have made a permanent home in my library of Books and video Games. A must read for any true fantasy/sci-fi f

Great for AP Human Geography
By A Customer
Currently I am taking an AP Human Geography class in my high school and this is the book we were assigned to buy. This book has wonderful charts and pictures along with descriptions. This book goes into depth and doesn't only touch the surface. I recomend this book to AP Human Geography teachers and students!

what a wonderful contrast it would be to go into more depth ...
By Nancy
This book is a textbook for AP Human Geography, and as a teacher I have to say that it should be more balanced in its presentation. For example, on the chapter on Population, it compares the population policy of China (the one child policy) to that of India. It refers to China's one child policy as "successful" without mentioning that there are six million MISSING girls in China as a result of this brutal policy. It refers to India's population policy as less successful, when in fact India has a much higher respect for Faith and family. That is very concerning.

My students talked about these slanted views throughout the year, so this bias is noticed. We tried to add to the curriculum with inspriational stories which add so much when studying developing nations. For example, when studying about the World Bank and the IMF, what a wonderful contrast it would be to go into more depth on Grameen Bank, which was founded by a professor from Tennessee who realized that he could free an entire village from economic slavery - with less than a $30 investment. Thus began the success story in empowering villages -and Muhammad Yunus thus created a bank owned by the women of small villages empowering other women. Compare that to the failure rates of the IMF and the World Bank! We need textbooks that inspire with what individuals can do in this world, and to create these textbooks would modify the feeling that too many people have that the problems of the world are so great that only big government can solve them. Better textbooks would be a good place to start.

solid textbook
By gnttng4life
This text is an easy read for both the eyes and brain due to the font choice and layout. Illustrations and photographs are visually pleasing as well. I am a pseudogeography junkie with a passion for the human experience, development, and social justice issues around the globe. This text worked well in these areas of my learning experience. A social work major is responsible for the content of this review! Well Done, however, a bit on the expensive side.

I hope people like Allon actually exist
By ktollstam
I know I am late to this party, but this is an amazing author who has created an amazing set of characters. These books may not appeal to everyone as it deals with the Jewish condition and the Middle East (and Terrorism et al). While it is told from the Jewish perspective, it is balanced and gives the Arab and Palestinian side of the story. These novels are violent but not particularly graphic, and the hero, Gabriel Allon, is not a "super hero" - he bleeds and gets tired. These books are full of historical perspective and the author paints vivid imagery in the descriptions of the various settings in the story. Like an hour television drama, the mystery is concluded within the 400 or so pages in the book. You are not left hanging and required to read the next book - you don't even have to read the books in order but I recommend you do. As in most novels, no one ever has to use the restroom and the realities of life are simplified, but the plots are well thought out, the characters brilliantly developed and current events are expertly woven throughout.

Totally Engrossing!
By Ethics Prof
Amazon dramatically discounted two of Silva's Gabriel Allon books on Kindle recently and that is one smart marketing strategy! I got so totally hooked on this series that I've now read eight of them in about a month. Silva is a wonderful writer - his style is accessible and intelligent and he develops wonderful, complex characters. While Silva does a great job of making each book stand alone, he does link the books. Characters appear and are continued from book to book and prior actions and situations are referenced in later books. However, Silva does this so masterfully that you do not need to read them all. However, if you're anything like me and love a good story, you will look up the chronological order online and read them all. This particular book tells a wonderful story about the Holocaust and how Nazis escaped and received help to get out of Europe after the war. Some - like the villain in this book - returned and became involved in evil doings on a lesser scale. Allon hunts down the Nazi criminal and eliminates the threat, as he always does. What I like best about Silva, in addition to these great characters and stories, is that so much of what he writes about is based in truth. At the end of each book, he makes a point of telling you which parts of the story were true. Much of the history he describes involves events I have never read about anywhere else and, as a result, has prompted research on my part after reading each book. I will be very sad when I finish this series!

It's a page turner!
By Leah
Though Allon is Israeli Intelligence/gifted art restorer and told mostly from his perspective, there are parts told from the perspective of the "other guy" so the reader gets a chance to consider both sides - not that it reads like an "Opposing Viewpoints" book, but there's not a propaganda feel. It's just super good story telling. The narrative is fast paced and seamless. The author doesn't get bogged down in spoon feeding you every detail - just enough to move the story along. Some authors writing a series will catch the reader up with passages that are mildly awkward updates as if you haven't read each book from beginning to end, one right after the other (as I have:) Each of this series has references to events in previous books, but each one can stand alone - I'm up to book 8 now and I didn't notice the "mildly awkward updates" until briefly in book 7. It doesn't distract from the excellent story telling. For those who love to read, this is an exciting discovery. Yay! Something good to read!

About the Author
BARBARA KRAMER began writing biographies for children and young adults after following the advice of another author who said, "Write what you like to read." She remembered how much she enjoyed biographies when she was a kid, especially stories about trailblazers such as Davy Crockett, Daniel Boone, and Elizabeth Blackwell and decided that's what she wanted to write. Her subjects have included both historical figures and people in the news.
