He covers a wide variety of topics which is good, but that also hampers the book as none ...

When I was originally reading this book, I was interested in seeing how the author would speed up their code. He covers a wide variety of topics which is good, but that also hampers the book as none of the topics are covered in depth. He uses lots of small examples and shows how to profile before moving on to optimizing them. Let’s go over each of the chapters so you can get a taste of what the book covers. Full disclosure: I was a technical reviewer of the book for Packt.

Chapter one is all about profiling your code. It covers the differences between statistical and event-based profiling, what profiling is and why it’s important, bottlenecks and memory leaks. It also goes over running time complexity (linear, factorial, quadratic, etc) and profiling best practices.

Then we logically move into chapter two where we learn about some profilers we can use with Python. The two that are covered are cProfile (included with Python) and line_profiler. The author demonstrates various ways to use cProfile to measure your code and also how to use Python’s pstats module, which is used for analyzing the results you receive from cProfile. Then the author moves on to using line_profiler and kernprof to analyze the same (or similar) examples used with cProfile. I think this is one of the best balanced chapters in the book and really quite interesting all by itself.

Chapter three goes into using visual tools to help you understand your profiler’s output. In this chapter, you will learn about KCacheGrind / pyprof2calltree and RunSnakeRun. For the most part, you’ll just learn how to use these tools to figure out what your data means.

In chapter four, we learn about optimizing your code. Topics covered are memoization, list comprehensions, generators, ctypes, loading your own custom C library, and some others tips and tricks. While this chapter is short, it has some good ideas and is worth reading or at least skimming.

Chapter five digs into multithreading and multiprocessing. You’ll learn about the pros and cons of each. You will also learn about the Global Interpreter Lock and how that affects you when you choose one of these techniques.

Chapter six goes into using PyPy and Cython and how they can be useful for additional optimizations to your code. I enjoyed this chapter, although I didn’t feel that PyPy got as much attention as Cython. There also weren’t very many coding examples.

If you’re into number crunching, then chapter seven is for you. It goes over how to use Numba, Parakeet and pandas. Quite frankly, out of the three of libraries, I had only ever heard of pandas. I personally don’t need to do a lot of number crunching in my line of work, but it was interesting to see how each of the libraries worked and get a general idea of what they could be used for.

Finally in chapter eight, the author attempts to put it all together. This chapter probably should have been twice as long as it is so that he could have actually covered everything. But in the end, it covers just barely enough and you do get to see a full example get optimized from beginning to end.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. I would recommend this to anyone who needs ideas for optimizing their Python code or just for learning about profiling in general.

Though I’ve programmed in R for some time, I am relatively new to Python. “Mastering Python High Performance” helped me with some Python syntax issues. I found Chapter 4 “Optimize Everything”, which includes coverage on dictionary lookups, list comprehensions & miscellaneous tips / tricks, the most useful. Chapter 5 was also interesting as it helped me understand the pros & cons of multithreading versus multiprocessing. Overall, I found this a helpful & informative text for a Python programmer with some prior experience in the language.

"High Performance Python” is a vast topic and this book does a good enough job getting into the finer points of python coding

Mastering Python High Performance is a worthwhile buy for python programmers who are looking to take their skills to a new level. It gives you a pretty good explanation of how the code is executed when it is run which can be useful for anyone who wants to have more in depth knowledge of computing. If I had one gripe it would be it seems to rush into the topic a bit too quickly and jumps into algorithm and doesn’t sufficiently go over the topic. Overall, “High Performance Python” is a vast topic and this book does a good enough job getting into the finer points of python coding.

Great classic for young children

This book is the old folk song you probably remember from childhood. It's perfect to teach phonemic awareness to young children because it contains many rhymes. (We'll catch a FOX and put him in a BOX... and then we'll let him go!) It contains a few words which may be new to children (such as "pram" and "bunk"), so can help to build vocabulary. It's the type of book children love to listen to over and over again. After reading the book, help your child make up new, silly rhyming verses to add to the song. :)

Delightful and entertaining!

This is the favorite book of my 3 year old son! He not only sings it, but acts it out. The illustrations are very simple, childlike, and a little bit silly. As a teacher, I appreciate the value of the book for its rhyming words, and I think it's sweet that the author dedicated the book to the children who helped him complete the verses (and so dedicates it to every child who reads the book).

Dalilah marries Blake Nottingham to save him from wrecking Luke's career. Nottingham who is a billionaire can destroy Luke with just one word. After Luke's art show he comes home to find Dalilah on his couch, but he throws her out. He's still hurt from their break up but no matter how much he loves her she still married Nottingham and he just found out. A few hours later Dalilah is back at Luke's this time all bruised up. Luke doesn't turn her away this time he's ready to fight for her and to find out the real reason she married that sick man. They will have to fight for their relationship every step of the way because getting rid of Nottingham is not easy and not their only problem.

This book frustrated me. I recommend it because book one and book three are great and this one connects them. I try not to give away anything in any review I write, so I will say the two main characters, especially the female continued to make stupid decisions and that annoys me. She is a prodigy, extremely brilliant, speaks 5 languages fluently, supremely beautiful with a billionaire father and she cant make one single logical decision.

I love the characters. However, I find it impossible to believe that Delilah wouldn't get help from her parents. They're rich and influential too, so at times her situation seems somewhat forced and implausible to me. Despite that, I do love these characters and very much want to read the rest of the story.

Defining a process of requirements capture as the "front end" or "pre-development" of the product development process is imperative. The front end is a critical phase because once the concept has been defined, then about 80% of subsequent costs will have been committed.

Without the requirements capture process, false assumptions regarding customer, technical and other requirements may be made. Such false assumptions lead to errors in the product specification which may only be uncovered later in the process. It does not take much to imagine the impact this has on time and money.

With the current focus on achieving quick response, managers worry that more effort expended on requirements capture at the front end will increase the time of product development. However, companies with intensive front end activities spend 40% less time on product development than those that ignore this stage. In addition, companies with an effective requirements capture process gain more profits and revenue from new products than those that do not have an adequate requirements capture process.

About the Author
Dr. Margaret Bruce is Professor of Design Management and Marketing and Head of Department of Textiles, UMIST. She has written several books and papers on design and innovation and carried out international research programmes in these fields. She has developed courses and run executive programmes in Product Development Management and Design and edits the International Journal of Product Development, Innovation and Management.

Dr. Rachel Cooper is Professor of Design Management and Associate Head of Research in the School of Art and Design at the University of Salford. She is Chair of the European Design Academy and edits the international journal, The Design Journal. She has published several books and papers in design management, new product development and conducted major research programes in this field.

Jodi Liano (San Francisco, CA) is an author, recipe developer, and cooking instructor at Tante Marie's Cooking School in San Francisco. She managed the development of The Tante Marie's Cooking School Cookbook, wrote recipes for Williams-Sonoma Cooking from the Farmers' Market and has worked as a food stylist, including a stint with the Food Network.

Kate Sears is an acclaimed food, still life, and travel photographer based in New York City. She is a contributor to Martha Stewart Living, Oprah Magazine, The New York Times, Food Network Magazine, Elle Decor, and Everyday with Rachel Ray among others. Her previous book projects include Jasper White’s The Summer Shack Cookbook and Martha Stewart’s Dinner at Home.

Eggs For Any Meal

I like everything about this cookbook. I like eggs for any meal and the basics are included with instructions on how to choose fresh eggs and how to cook basic fried, scrambled, boiled, and poached eggs. The recipes include all kinds of scrambles, baked eggs and casseroles, quiches, frittatas, and specialty egg dishes like eggs benedict, deviled eggs, and egg salad.

Since I am trying to stick to low-carb eating these days, many of the recipes appealed to me with the main ingredients being eggs and veggies, with meat added to some. I made the spinach, tomato, and feta cheese frittata (kind of like a quiche without a crust) for lunch and loved it.

There are lots of color photographs for inspiration, and the recipes are easy for cooks of any level with ingredients that can be found in most grocery stores. This is destined to become one of my favorite, most used cookbooks and is one I'd gladly give as a gift or recommend to friends.

I received a copy of this book for review from the publisher but the opinion of it is my own and was not solictied, nor was a positive review required.

I love this cookbook. I have made several of the frittatas, and they are creative and wonderful. Have made other various recipes in here, too.

My mom grew up on the farm (she is 94 now) and I have asked her what did they do for "fast food?" She said EGGS. Need I say more. Lovely, fresh, creative ways to prepare a QUICK breakfast, lunch, or light supper. Add some English Muffins and a bowl of fruit, and you have a lovely meal.

I'm also partial to the Scan Pan non-stick skillets for my eggs. Paired, the book and pan would make a lovely birthday or wedding shower gift, too. This is a cookbook I will keep going back to.
